Tri-Rail Double Track Corridor Improvement Program - Segment 5

Client: South Florida Regional Transportation Authority
Project location: South Florida
Project cost: $231 million
DMJM Harris is serving as project management consultant for the operational capital improvements to the South Florida Rail Corridor, a 72-mile railroad line in the densely populated Miami/Fort Lauderdale/West Palm Beach region. The railroad line supports commuter (Tri-Rail), intercity (Amtrak), and freight (CSXT) operations in an extremely busy freight corridor with a main double-track at-grade crossing of the Florida East Coast (FEC) freight tracks at Hialeah in Miami-Dade County.
DMJM Harris is providing project management of three separate design/build projects: Segment 5 (bid at $231 million), New River Bridge (bid at $53 million), and Palm Beach Sound Wall (negotiation at $12 million).
During the first phase of the Segment 5 project, DMJM Harris prepared the design/build procurement documents and administered the competitive bid process. We are currently providing construction management of 44 miles of double-track construction, 24 bridges, 10 stations and 70 at-grade full-closure crossings. The objective is to reduce peak period headway times to 20 minutes, increase rider convenience, enhance grade-crossing safety and improve on-time operational performance.
