US 93/SR 68 Traffic Interchange and Port-of-Entry

Client: Arizona Department of Transportation
Project location: Kingman, Arizona
Project cost: $25 million
Due to its unique configuration, US 93/SR 68, at the base of the Cerbat Mountain Range in Arizona, has a “trumpet” directional interchange. A new port-of-entry facility with weigh-in motion scales handling inbound SR 68 and US 93 commercial traffic from Nevada is included in the divided roadway with directional traffic ramps. DMJM Harris provided a location design concept report (DCR), an environmental assessment (EA), and the final design for 5.7 miles of a two- to four-lane expanded roadway along US 93 for the Arizona Department of Transportation.
In addition, DMJM Harris was responsible for location alternative development. Initially, 54 alternatives were narrowed down to three, which were carried into the DCR and EA, geometric design, conceptual structural design, port-of-entry concepts, environmental analysis, traffic analysis, and public involvement. Due to mountainous 6 percent grades, the project included a one-mile truck-climbing lane exiting the port-of-entry.
