Mina Al-Ahmadi Piers Improvement Program

Client: Kuwait National Petroleum Company
Project location: Kuwait
Project cost: $100 million
DMJM Harris was involved in assessment engineering, detailed engineering, and tender document phases for the rehabilitation of the north and south piers. The assessment phase covered project planning, a study and evaluation of existing data, and a full site survey of the two pier structures. The structural survey identified the steel members/piles requiring replacement or repair, including the north pier’s cathodic protection system.
The detailed engineering phase provided both a structural and electrical design. Steel structures on both piers and the north approach trestle were re-enforced, and a new mooring dolphin with catwalks and a new boat landing structure for the north pier were designed. The detailed electrical design covered a complete new impressed current cathodic protection system with a separate cable support system. As part of the detailed design, a detailed structural/electrical material take-off was carried out, together with a cost estimate for the rehabilitation work.
The documentation phase produced a very detailed invitation to bid (ITB) document, including contract agreements, general conditions, coordination procedures, quality control procedures, project scope definitions, design drawings, technical specifications, pre-commissioning and commissioning specifications, and construction philosophy/specifications.
